Overview
OneTrust offers a software platform designed to help companies ensure they can be trusted and remain compliant with laws around privacy, trust and risk. The company says it is using new funding to continue building that platform. Since its prior funding, OneTrust says it doubled ARR to $400 million and reached free cash flow milestones. Customer count has grown from 7,500 in 2020 to over 14,000 today, and headcount rose from 1,500 to 2,100. OneTrust was founded in 2016 by former AirWatch employees and has raised more than $1 billion to date. The company positions itself as expanding its privacy and trust offerings for enterprise customers. OneTrust provides an enterprise platform to operationalize privacy, security, data governance, ethics, compliance, GRC, third-party risk, and ESG through agile, centralized workflows. Led by CEO Kabir Barday, the company serves more than 8,000 customers, including over half of the Fortune 500. OneTrust has a team of 1,500 employees and is co-headquartered in Atlanta and London, with additional offices in Bangalore, Melbourne, Seattle, San Francisco, New York, São Paulo, Munich, Paris, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. The company recently added DocuVision’s Redacted.ai automated data redaction solution to its platform and announced plans to acquire ethics and compliance company Convercent. Its platform is positioned to help customers manage a complex patchwork of privacy regulations, security requirements, ethics and compliance frameworks, and sustainability initiatives. Financially, OneTrust has raised $920M in total funding, with its Series C now totaling $510M after the most recent extension. OneTrust offers a suite of privacy and trust products covering privacy management, data discovery, third‑party risk assessment, risk management, ethics and compliance, and consent management. The company has grown rapidly through both product development and acquisitions, completing four acquisitions in its first four years. OneTrust reports roughly 7,500 customers and is adding about 1,000 customers per quarter. It employs about 1,500 people and plans to add around 900 more in 2021. The startup said revenue held up better than expected after moving from trade-show sales to digital channels during the pandemic. Management has used prior funding to finance acquisitions and says it took the latest round partly to revalue stock for employees and to fund the next steps of growth. OneTrust provides a privacy, security and third-party risk technology platform used to help organizations comply with CCPA, GDPR, ISO27001 and hundreds of other privacy and security laws. Led by CEO Kabir Barday and CTO Blake Brannon, the company serves more than 5,000 customers, both big and small, across 100 countries. It has approximately 1,500 employees across 10 global offices. The company intends to use the new funding to continue investing in its technology platform to meet customer demand. OneTrust raised $210M in a Series B at a reported $2.7B valuation, bringing total funding to date to $410M. The platform focuses on privacy, security and trust technology for enterprises and other organizations. OneTrust provides a suite of privacy and data-protection tools, including privacy management software that tracks data collection and generates jurisdictional compliance reports, a user-facing preference/consent service, and a third-party risk database and risk-management platform. Its offerings are available as cloud-based SaaS or on-premises deployments. The company reports roughly 3,000 customers across 100 countries and about 1,000 employees, and it is already generating revenue. Leadership says OneTrust could have grown off its own balance sheet, but took outside capital to signal stability to larger customers. The company has pursued IP protection aggressively, with 50 patents filed and another 50 applications in progress. Planned uses of capital include geographic expansion, adding more business customers, and further technology development, including potential proactive malware-detection and data-leak prevention tools.
