OnlineTours operates an online resale marketplace for packaged tour bookings in Russia. The company sells package tours and competes with both ubiquitous offline travel agencies and growing online rivals. The new capital is intended to increase market share and further develop its technology platform as the startup aims to become the leading online travel service in Russia. CEO Matvey German highlighted that the investment also brings travel-industry expertise from investors such as Holtzbrinck Ventures, e.ventures and Global Founders Capital. The broader Russian package-tour market was estimated at $15 billion with only about 2% transacted online, indicating significant room for online growth. OnlineTours previously raised $2 million in a Series A from InVenture Partners shortly after its 2012 inception.
