Founded in 2008, Lyon-based Onsen develops Hippocampe, a software platform paired with connected equipment that continuously monitors and optimizes the energy and water usage of public swimming pools and aquatic facilities. The solution is already deployed on more than 200 sites in France and Belgium, where it delivers average annual savings of 3,750 m³ of water and 111 MWh of energy per site. The company generated roughly €3 million in revenue and employs 25 people. Co-founder Yann Menez has led the firm since 2021. With its technology, Onsen targets the growing need for greener, more cost-efficient aquatic infrastructure. The company intends to accelerate domestic and international roll-outs while expanding its technical team. Onsen was a 2024 I-Nov contest winner and obtained the Greentech Innovation label in 2025.
