OnSports, also known as Hitpost, builds a mobile app focused on live discussions, polls and news about sports. The app aims to be the destination where fans can chatter about teams and players and recently launched improved tools for creating polls and stories. It has more than 1 million downloads on Google Play and fewer on iOS; the CEO said there are “tens of thousands” of discussions and votes per day. The number of in-app bets using virtual currency is growing about 20% day over day. The company has seven employees and plans to add a few more engineers with the new funding. CEO Aaron Krane says OnSports intends to leverage viral distribution and social-game monetization mechanics to grow engagement.
