Onswipe is a tablet publishing platform that builds HTML5 tablet experiences. The company announced a partnership with WordPress.com to power the tablet experience of over 18.5 million blogs on the service. It plans a full launch on June 21 with branded partnerships and a feature called "myonswipe" that enables Instapaper-like offline reading in-browser. Co-founder Jason Baptiste said the team is growing rapidly and intends to scale headcount from about 10 to 20–25 over the next year. Onswipe raised a $5M "Series Awesome" round after a $1M seed in January to fund that expansion. The company is focused on capturing the tablet market through engineering hires and business development partnerships. OnSwipe provides a platform that lets publishers instantly convert any website into a native-like HTML5 app experience in the browser on touch-enabled devices. The product emphasizes magazine-quality typography, design, and advertising presentation for tablets and other touch devices. It supports delivering content across iOS, Android, BlackBerry and other touch-enabled platforms without requiring separate native apps. The company says hundreds of publishers have already signed on, and it plans to use recent funding to fuel platform growth and broader publisher adoption. Betaworks noted plans to incorporate social data and sharing into the platform to increase engagement. OnSwipe positions itself as addressing a rising tablet audience, citing industry estimates of rapidly growing tablet users.
