Overview
Two Pore Guys (2PG) developed the MoM™, a handheld, battery-operated solid-state nanopore single-molecule diagnostic platform that detects nucleic acids and proteins using electronic current-impedance signatures. The device is designed for point-of-use applications and can sync with smartphones or computers for analysis and data sharing, including electronic health record integration. 2PG has developed more than 33 tests for partners in human diagnostics and agriculture, and completed a liquid biopsy study at UCSF showing its MoM was as sensitive and accurate as ddPCR in detecting cell-free cancer DNA. The company is collaborating with Maxim Integrated on analog signal processing technologies; Maxim Ventures has invested in 2PG as part of that collaboration to develop customized chips that reduce cost, size, and power while improving robustness. 2PG’s investors include undisclosed existing backers and corporations that provide core technologies and help accelerate production and supply-chain development. Founded in 2011 and based in Santa Cruz, Calif., the company emphasizes sample-in, results-out capability for broad human, animal, agricultural, and environmental applications. Two Pore Guys has developed a handheld, battery-operated single-molecule sensing platform that uses solid-state nanopores and disposable test strips to detect nucleic acids, proteins, and other analytes with high sensitivity. The device operates like a glucose monitor, transmits data wirelessly to authorized systems and cloud infrastructures, and is designed to sync with smartphones or computers for further analysis and integration with electronic health records. Target uses include human and animal diagnostics, agriculture, food safety testing, environmental monitoring, regulatory applications, defense, telemedicine, clinical trials, and global pathogen tracking. 2PG’s business model mirrors a smartphone app‑store: third parties develop specific assays while 2PG manufactures the reader devices and reagent-containing test strips, which are sold through master distributors. The company has begun collaborating with partners across multiple markets and announced a clinical liquid biopsy study with the University of California, San Francisco. The company closed a $24.5 million Series A led by Khosla Ventures to scale manufacturing, expand the executive team, and advance its two-pore technology for whole genome sequencing and genome mapping.
