Overview
Onyx provides an open-source internal enterprise search solution that connects to more than 40 internal data sources, including Salesforce, GitHub and Google Drive. Companies can install Onyx in about 30 minutes and pay for premium tiers that add features like enhanced sign-in security and stronger encryption. The founders, Chris Weaver and Yuhong Sun, released the original open-source project in 2023 (the project was originally called Danswer) and quickly gained traction. Onyx works with dozens of enterprises, including Netflix, Ramp, and Thales Group, and reported a peak of over 160,000 messages in a single week. The company recently raised a $10 million seed round and plans to use the funds to hire and develop more premium features. Onyx emphasizes open source as its key differentiator to scale adoption and avoid lengthy enterprise sales cycles while competing with vendors like Glean and internal builds such as Klarna’s Kiki.
