Oort Energy is a UK-based maker of next-generation proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers that produce green hydrogen from water and renewable electricity. Founded by industry veterans, the company says it has reinvented the electrolyser stack from first principles, combining material innovations with a scalable manufacturing architecture to lower production costs and improve efficiency and durability. Oort has a patented PEM electrolyser technology and has completed the design of a 250 kW platform while preparing for serial manufacturing. The company plans commercial 250 kW and 1 MW systems in 2023 and is due to commission its first fully compliant containerised demonstrator at a customer site in Q3 2023. Financially, Oort closed an oversubscribed £5.0 million seed round and has also received about £800,000 in non-dilutive grants from UK and EU bodies. Proceeds are earmarked to establish a manufacturing plant, deliver the first demonstrator, and scale supply chain and large‑scale manufacturing.
