Openbase
340 South Lemon Avenue Suite 6644, Walnut, CA, 91789, United States
Overview
Openbase operates a searchable database that helps developers choose among millions of open-source components, using user reviews and detailed insights to compare options. The database today includes 1.5 million JavaScript packages, with Python and Go support in beta. The service is free for developers, which helped it grow to roughly 500,000 users in its first year largely via word of mouth. Founder Lior Grossman launched the product in 2019 and joined Y Combinator’s Summer 2020 cohort. The company has grown from a solo founder to a six-person team and plans to hire more staff this year. Longer-term monetization plans include clearly marked promoted package placements (restricted to one promoted package per category) while retaining all user reviews and associated data.
