OpenChime is a service that helps consumers quickly receive valid quotes from reputable local service providers across a wide range of categories. Launched in 2010 by MIT graduates Erdem Kiciman and Kale McNaney, the company connects consumers with handymen, cleaners, personal trainers, caterers, and other local businesses. OpenChime says it has grown to a network of over 1.8 million local service providers in hundreds of U.S. cities, and thousands of customers have booked services through the platform. Examples of bookings include housecleaning, lawn care, wedding photography, boat rentals, and home theatre installation. In a Chicago announcement, OpenChime disclosed it has received $700,000 in outside funding from Lightbank. The platform emphasizes connecting consumers with reputable, transparent providers who can offer reliable quotes.
