OpenIO

Hem, Picardie, France

Overview

OpenIO offers an open-source object storage framework that lets organizations turn any computing device into the backend of an S3-compatible storage service. Its software can run on a cheap virtual private server with 512MB of RAM and supports mixed-hardware clusters combining x86 servers and ARMv7 devices. The platform scales to multiple petabytes of data and is already used by customers including video site Dailymotion. OpenIO positions its technology for edge and fog computing use cases where latency, bandwidth, and storing data near end customers matter. With the new funding, the company plans to expand its customer footprint to the U.S. and Japan in addition to EMEA. OpenIO raised $5 million from Elaia Partners, Partech Ventures and Nord France Amorçage.
