OpenMind builds OM1, a software layer that acts as an open, hardware-agnostic operating system for humanoid robots. Founded by Stanford professor Jan Liphardt in 2024 and based in Silicon Valley, the company frames OM1 as the "Android" for robotics. It unveiled FABRIC, a protocol that lets robots verify identity and share context and information with other robots. OpenMind is gearing up to ship its first fleet of 10 OM1-powered robotic dogs by September to put the tech into people’s homes and gather feedback. The company emphasizes rapid iteration based on user feedback to improve human–machine interactions.
