OpenSC
1/80 George Street, The Rocks, Sydney, New South Wales, 2000, Australia
Overview
OpenSC is an impact venture co‑founded by WWF‑Australia and BCG Digital Ventures that builds a digital platform to verify sustainability and ethical claims, trace products using IoT and blockchain, and share product information with consumers. The platform applies data science and machine learning to validate claims and improve supply‑chain transparency. OpenSC is focusing on commodities with high environmental and human‑rights risks such as seafood, timber, and palm oil. It has completed an international pilot with Austral Fisheries tracking Glacier 51 Patagonian Toothfish and is collaborating with Nestlé to trace milk (and later palm oil) from source to consumers. The venture was launched publicly at the World Economic Forum in Davos and is the first impact venture spun out of WWF’s Panda Labs. The announced seed funding will support further development and scaling of the OpenSC platform.
