Overview
Opentrons Labworks develops an integrated lab platform that combines lab robotics, assays, and operations to deliver cost‑effective solutions for diagnostics, research, and synthetic genomics. Its Opentrons Robotics unit sells the OT-2 robot, used by thousands of research organizations in more than 40 countries. Through its Pandemic Response Lab subsidiary, Opentrons operates diagnostic labs that performed over 4.5 million patient tests across the U.S. in the past year. The company also operates a Neochromosome biofoundry for genome‑scale cell engineering and acquired Zenith AI to bring no‑code AI and modern machine learning to the platform. Opentrons says it will use the new funding to expand the platform globally, develop new robotic tools, grow its biofoundry, launch new diagnostic tests, and open additional diagnostic labs. The company positions its vertically integrated platform as a foundation for more affordable, high‑throughput solutions in life sciences and healthcare. NYC-based Opentrons provides biologists with hardware, an open software platform and pipetting robots to automate manual lab work and enable collaborative research. The company is developing and launching its newest robot, the OT-2, alongside a no-code Protocol Designer, and plans to expand operations and grow customer adoption. OT-2 features an intuitive visual Protocol Designer, modular additions such as temperature and magnet decks, tip-probe auto-calibration assistance, electronic pipettes, and access to a library of more than 100 verified protocols and community-developed projects. Opentrons also offers an open API for integration with tools like Amazon Alexa, microscopes, and computer vision. Led by co-founder and CEO Chiu Chau and co-founder and Chief Product Officer Will Canine, the company reports its solutions are used by scientists at 70% of the top 10 largest pharma companies and 90% of the top 50 biology research universities.
