Overview
Opna Bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel oncology therapeutics. Its lead discovery program targets the fragile-X mental retardation protein (FMRP) with an exclusive license from EPFL and was launched alongside Science data from the Hanahan lab implicating FMRP in tumor immune evasion. Opna also acquired a diversified portfolio of clinical and preclinical oncology assets from Plexxikon, including clinical-stage OPN-2853 (a BET inhibitor in Phase 1/2) and OPN-7486 (a CSF1R inhibitor expected to begin a Phase 2 study in 2023). Preclinical programs include inhibitors of EP300, CD73, and TEAD. The company’s portfolio is focused on targeting immune suppression and other hallmarks of cancer, and internal and published data suggest FMRP inhibition can activate T cell–mediated anti-tumor immunity and enhance checkpoint inhibitor activity. Opna has assembled an experienced leadership team and scientific advisory board with founders and leaders from Plexxikon, EPFL, Yale and other institutions. Financially, Opna launched with a $38 million Series A to advance its FMRP program and the acquired Plexxikon assets.
