Opsonix's core product is an extracorporeal pathogen-extracting therapy that uses engineered pathogen-capture proteins to remove bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and toxins from circulating blood. Its lead molecule, FcMBL, is a recombinant human protein derived from mannose-binding lectin fused to an Fc region and is intended to be attached to the membrane of a dialyzer-type device. The therapy is designed to work in synergy with conventional antibiotics and has been shown in founders' studies to clear antibiotic-resistant organisms and the toxins that initiate the sepsis cascade. Opsonix holds an exclusive, worldwide license from Harvard University to commercialize the engineered opsonin proteins developed at the Wyss Institute. The company plans to use its recently raised capital to advance development and move expeditiously into preclinical studies. Leadership includes scientific founders Donald Ingber and Michael Super (Wyss Institute) and CEO/founder Eric Devroe.
