Overview
Optimise-AI is a Cardiff University spinout that has developed US‑patented AI software to optimise energy and carbon management of non-domestic buildings. Founded in 2023 by Prof Yacine Rezgui and CEO Nick Tune, the company provides building owners and managers with easy-to-understand actionable insights into operational energy and carbon emissions, even when only an energy meter is present. It has implemented intelligent performance management systems at The Maltings in Cardiff, Luton Airport and several railway stations including Bristol Temple Meads, and recently set up a partnership with University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The company was selected by Carbon13 for its venture building programme and won the Wales Technology Awards 2024. Optimise-AI projects its technology could save over 10Mt of carbon emissions by enabling predictive and proactive energy management across millions of data-poor buildings. It secured a six-figure equity investment led by the Development Bank of Wales to enable IP transfer from Cardiff University and drive commercialisation.
