OptiScan Biomedical is a Hayward, Calif.-based developer of an automated bedside glucose monitoring platform for use in surgical and hospital intensive care units. Its lead product, the OptiScanner 5000, measures glucose directly from plasma using spectroscopy without the need for calibration and provides trending glucose data with updates every 15 minutes. The company positions the OptiScanner platform to support clinicians in rapidly detecting changes in critically ill patients and maintaining user-defined target glucose ranges. OptiScan completed a $20M Series E financing to fund commercialization of the OptiScanner 5000 in the United States.
