Earl Mountbatten Building, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, EH14 4AS, United Kingdom
Overview
ORCA Hub is an academic-industry research hub focused on offshore robotics for inspection, maintenance, and asset certification in hazardous offshore environments. The Hub aims to combine autonomous robots with remote human operators to reduce risk to divers and workers. It is helping foster the energy transition and advance the adoption of renewable energy by translating research into industry practice. Founded in 2017 by Heriot-Watt and the University of Edinburgh, the Hub is a strategic project within the National Robotarium and includes partners such as Imperial College London and the universities of Liverpool and Oxford. Recent funding will support expansion of applications into new sectors and delivery of demonstration projects for industrial partners. Industrial collaborators named in the articles include Wood, EDF, and Ross Robotics.
