Orcan Energy

Rupert-Mayer-Straße 44, München, Bayern, 81379, Germany

Overview

Founded in 2008 as a Technical University of Munich spin-out, Munich-based Orcan Energy develops technology that harvests low-temperature waste heat and pushes the recovered energy back into systems. The company focuses on small- to medium-sized heat sources in the low-temperature segment, targeting sectors such as marine, cement, steel, geothermal, oil and gas, and power generation. Orcan positions its technology as delivering the worldwide lowest possible generation cost. Management says the company is past an inflection point and is scaling with the right products, partners, and a proven track record. Orcan predicts a 5x revenue increase in 2022 year-over-year and is working to accelerate international recognition and services uptake. Orcan Energy GmbH develops Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology in small power ranges and offers ePack, a plug-and-play system that converts waste heat into electricity. The company was founded in 2008 as a spin-out from the Technical University of Munich and is led by CEO Dr. Andreas Sichert. ePack is marketed to enhance energy efficiency at industrial and energy-producing facilities by exploiting waste heat for power generation. Orcan recently closed a second round of financing; the amount was not disclosed. Backers on the round included new strategic investor E.ON and existing investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Wellington Partners. The company intends to use the funds to expand adoption of its solutions, refine its delivery chain and upgrade safety and quality standards during assembly.
