Orchest builds an open-source integrated development environment for data scientists to develop, iterate, and deploy data pipelines without relying on infrastructure or engineering teams. The project began on GitHub in 2020 and the company launched its first public version after a private beta of cloud hosting. Orchest offers a SaaS business model with a hosted offering where Orchest manages operational hosting and an enterprise edition with additional features. Founders Rick Lamers and Yannick Perrenet left Delft University of Technology to start the company. The open-source project has amassed over 1,300 GitHub stars, more than 2,500 unique installs, and over 150 companies signed up for the private beta. Notable users include organizations such as Accenture and Georgetown University. The company announced a $3.5M seed round led by Gradient Ventures and Basis Set Ventures.
