Orchestra is a free, real-time chat plus to-do list app that blends messaging and task management with a simple, gesture-driven interface. The app supports voice or typed task entry, sharing tasks within the app or to Twitter and Facebook, and lets non‑users respond; users can also turn emails into tasks by forwarding them to tasks@orchestra.com. Orchestra syncs automatically to orchestra.com and emphasizes a social core—about one quarter of posted tasks are assigned to someone else. In the three weeks after launch the app was named iTunes "App of the Week" worldwide and Lifehacker's "Best To-Do App for the iPhone," and over 1.2 million tasks were posted. The company is led by co-founders Gentry Underwood and Scott Cannon, and runs a seven-person Palo Alto-based team. Management intends to use new funding to hire engineers and product designers and is working on Android and iPad versions, with ambitions to build more of a platform than a single product.
