San Francisco–based Orchid offers an at-home, physician-approved preconception testing system that analyzes 100% of both partners' genomes to quantify how their combined genetics affect a future child's risk for major diseases. Its primary product, the Couple Report, uses mailed saliva samples and models how both partners' DNA can combine to reveal elevated or normal genetic risk across a set of top diseases; Orchid also provides individual partner reports. The company says its analysis covers multifactorial conditions affecting a large portion of the population, in contrast to traditional screening that examined a small fraction of a single partner's genome. Orchid plans to roll out an Embryo Report and follow-up embryo health reports later this year to help couples pursuing IVF mitigate genetic risk by selecting embryo implantation order. The company is inviting couples to join a waitlist, offers applications for financial assistance, and is building educational resources and a community forum. Orchid announced a $4.5M seed financing to support these product launches and growth.
