Origen
Unit 5 Estune Business Park, Wild Country Lane, Long Ashton, Bristol, BS41 9FH, United Kingdom
Overview
Origen develops a limestone-based direct air capture (DAC) technology that leverages the natural chemistry of abundant limestone to absorb CO2, separate the carbon, and store it underground as mineral lime. Its approach includes proprietary technology across the kiln, lime preparation, and air contactor, and the system is fuel flexible to adapt to changing energy mixes. The company aims to scale its process to deliver carbon removal at commercial scale and plans further research at its technology and research centre in Bristol. Origen is advancing projects worldwide, including work on the ground in Louisiana and a facility under construction in North Dakota. It has announced a partnership with the Energy and Environmental Research Center (EERC) to capture 1,000 tonnes per annum and is developing the Pelican Gulf Coast project (with Shell and Mitsubishi) expected to remove up to 50,000 tonnes per year. Origen recently secured funding to support scaling and commercialization, including a Series A announced in January 2025.
