Orthonika is a spinout from Imperial College London developing a full substitution system for the knee meniscus. The company collaborated with Sierra MedTech to design and fabricate engineered substrates that replicate the native structure and organisation of meniscal tissue. Design work began in 2009 and advanced through several prototypes before the company was formed to combine design and development expertise. Orthonika launched through Co.Create, the company formation unit of Imperial Innovations. It has secured £150K in seed funding from a group of angel investors to advance the technology. The company aims to obtain regulatory approval and achieve clinical application for its meniscus substitute.
