Overview
Ostia Sciences is a University of Toronto spinout focused on oral and respiratory microbiome solutions and biotherapeutics. Its lead program is SALI-10, a probiotic based on a phosphorylated lantibiotic technology designed to provide targeted antimicrobial and pro-immune effects. The company has completed a prototype and plans to begin clinical trials in early 2025. Ostia secured full intellectual property assignment from the University of Toronto to enable independent R&D and commercialization. The seed financing (over CAD $1 million to date) will fund development, clinical trials, and manufacturing scale-up via partnerships with contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs). Ostia also plans to expand its discovery pipeline using the new funds and IP ownership.
