Ousta is Egypt’s first local ride‑sharing app, providing a mobile platform to connect riders and drivers. Launched in March 2016, the company expanded rapidly to operate in 11 main cities within five months. It had locked in 3,000 cars shortly after launch and planned to increase that fleet to over 10,000 vehicles by the end of 2016. The app aims to cover the entire Egyptian map within that same timeframe. Ousta positions itself as a local challenger to international incumbents Uber and Careem and is pursuing a much larger round of financing. The company is backed by a syndicate of angels and venture capitalists from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
