Overview
Owlin is an Amsterdam-based AI-driven text and news analytics platform serving the financial industry. Led by CEO Sjoerd Leemhuis, the platform monitors users' environments proactively, continuously and in real time by tapping into more than 3 million global sources in over 11 languages. It provides visualization of data-driven trends on global indices, industry sectors, themes, and companies, and offers white-labeled dashboards, websites, and widgets. Clients integrate the platform with end-user solutions for business opportunities, risk management and research. International customers include Fitch Ratings, Adyen, Deutsche Bank, ING and KPMG. The company intends to use new funding to accelerate its international growth, particularly in the UK and the United States. Owlin builds a real-time news alert service that uses algorithms to extract actionable intelligence from social media, newswires and Tweets. The product analyzes news in real time to give users a heads-up on important, breaking information, aimed at financial institutions, governments and traders. At the time of the article the product was in closed beta and the company was targeting a full launch in Q1 2013. The startup claims its technology can deliver "bottom-up" news 10 to 15 minutes before Bloomberg or Reuters. Owlin had recently graduated from the Amsterdam-based Rockstart Accelerator, and its founders Richard Kraaijenhagen and Bas van Ooyen had won first prize at the TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco Hackathon. Financially, the company raised $250K in seed funding from NoRo Venture Capital to support its launch plans.
