Overview

OxThera is advancing Oxabact, an oral product composed of concentrated freeze‑dried live bacteria (Oxalobacter formigenes) intended to promote enteric elimination of plasma oxalate. The company is led by CEO Elisabeth Lindner. Oxabact holds orphan drug designations in the EU and the US for primary hyperoxaluria (PH) and in the EU for short bowel syndrome (SBS). OxThera will use the newly raised funds to complete the Oxabact development program for treatment of PH. The article reports a €32m financing to support the program; no operating metrics were disclosed. OxThera AB is a Stockholm-based biopharmaceutical company that holds worldwide rights for compositions and methods of use to treat hyperoxaluria. Oxabact is being developed to treat primary hyperoxaluria, a rare autosomal recessive disorder marked by elevated endogenous oxalate in plasma and urine. The company raised SEK70m in new funding and intends to use the proceeds to conduct a Phase 2 clinical study to demonstrate Oxabact’s clinical efficacy in primary hyperoxaluria. In conjunction with the financing, Dr. Khalid Islam joined OxThera’s Board of Directors. Investors in the round included Kurma Partners (lead), IdInvest Partners, Mayo Clinic and current shareholders.
