Pacific Fusion
6082 Stewart Ave, Fremont, CA, 94538, United States
Overview
Pacific Fusion develops pulser modules that deliver extremely short, intense electrical pulses to compress fuel pellets for inertial confinement fusion. Its recent shipping container-sized prototype — about one-third the size of a full pulser module — produced a 440-gigawatt peak power pulse in 80 nanoseconds. The company plans a demonstration device that will use 156 full-size pulser modules, each with 32 stages and bricks of capacitors and switches, and expects to begin construction of that demonstration power plant this summer. Pacific Fusion intends to scale the prototype to full-size pulser modules while proceeding with facility construction and aims to achieve facility breakeven (producing enough energy to power the facility). The startup has used a tranche-based Series A raise to fund this work and told TechCrunch the Series A now exceeds $1 billion after unlocking a milestone-linked tranche.
