PainWorth

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Overview

PainWorth offers a patent-pending software platform that analyzes relevant legislation and past cases using data science and machine learning to help claimants and insurance companies reach personal-injury settlements more quickly and cost-effectively. The early product evaluated fairness of settlement offers for claimants and the company says it served all of Canada excluding Quebec; it reported “substantial growth” in 2021 and has amassed users in new territories. PainWorth plans to expand into new jurisdictions, build a two-sided portal to connect claimants and insurers, and provide more localized assessments for non-Canadian users. The startup targets the roughly 80% of personal-injury cases that are simple, low-complexity matters (mostly car accidents, but also product liability, assault, and medical malpractice). PainWorth acquired California-based legaltech ProSe Claims in 2021 and is experimenting in U.S. states including Ohio and Connecticut while eyeing California, Florida, Illinois, Utah, and Washington. Financially, the company has completed its first venture financing and will use seed proceeds to accelerate product expansion and geographic growth.
