Paired is a U.K.-based relationship-care app that offers partner quizzes, relationship-satisfaction tracking and expert audio tips to help couples communicate. Since launching in October, the app has attracted more than 5,000 users. The app is free to download on iOS and Google Play but requires a monthly or yearly subscription to access the full range of content. Paired commissioned a study with the Open University and University of Brighton that it says showed a 36% average increase in relationship satisfaction after three months of use. The company plans to use new funding to grow its user base from 5,000+ to 100,000 over the next 18 months, expand personalized content and work with new experts. It is hiring engineers, a product manager and a data scientist and will push marketing via influencers, partnerships and other channels while targeting the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia. Paired combines expert audio courses and tips with daily questions and quizzes designed for partners to answer together to improve communication and intimacy. The app was founded in September 2019 by Kevin Shanahan and Diego López and later joined by Chief Relationships Officer Dr Jacqui Gabb. It was piloted and iterated in Australia for six months and is launching publicly today. Paired is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store as a free download with a subscription required to unlock the full content library. The company works with relationship academics and therapists on content across topics including sex and intimacy, conflict and parenting; named collaborators include Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Mark Rivett, Hannah Sherbersky and Dr. Terri Orbuch. Paired says its user base is broad (new and long-term couples, long-distance couples and individuals), skews age 30–50, and that typical in-app use is about five minutes per day with additional discussion outside the app.
