Overview
Palleon Pharmaceuticals is pioneering glycan-mediated immune regulation to develop therapeutics for cancer and inflammatory diseases. Its core platforms include EAGLE, an enzymatic sialoglycan degradation strategy designed to overcome biological redundancy and enable a pan-immune anti-tumor response, and HYDRA, a translational platform that characterizes tumor surface glycan profiles to identify responsive patients. The company’s lead program, Sialidase-Fc, is an enzymatic sialoglycan degrader expected to enter clinical testing in 2021. Palleon is also advancing drug discovery programs targeting individual Siglecs and other glycan-sensing receptors with potential applications in inflammatory diseases such as autoimmunity and fibrosis. The company was launched in 2015 and is based in Waltham, Massachusetts. Its recent financing will be used to advance its pipeline of drug candidates to human clinical trials. Palleon Pharmaceuticals is focused on developing Glycoimmune Checkpoint Inhibitors — a new class of cancer medicines that target immune receptors activated by tumor cell-surface glycans. Its Convergence Platform integrates discoveries from tumor glycoscience and human immunology to validate targets, build in vitro and in vivo models, and drive translational research. The company holds exclusive licenses to intellectual property from scientific co-founders Carolyn Bertozzi and Paul Crocker. Jim Broderick, MD, is CEO and founder; Palleon was originally incubated in the Cambridge offices of SR One. The $47.6 million Series A will be used to establish and advance a first-in-class pipeline of drug candidates targeting Glycoimmune Checkpoints. While primarily focused on oncology, the platform is also applicable to infectious diseases, neurodegeneration, inflammation, and fibrosis.
