Paracosm

12 S Main St, Gainesville, Florida, 32601, United States

Overview

Paracosm builds cloud-based 3D mapping software that pieces video into 3D models, recognizes objects, and translates those shapes into code so machines can reason about real-world spaces. Its platform targets applications in robotics, gaming and other systems that need spatial understanding. The company aims to create general-purpose 3D maps of homes, offices, airports and museums that robots or software can interact with. Paracosm plans to use recent funding to expand the team and improve algorithms while keeping commercial applications open-ended; it expects to commercialize one or two verticals itself to validate the tech. CEO and founder Amir Rubin brings prior spatial-perception startup experience and Paracosm was an early development partner for Google’s Project Tango. The startup is Florida-based and has not disclosed revenue, users, valuation, or other operating metrics. Paracosm builds realistic, detailed and dimensionally accurate indoor 3-D modeling and navigation software that converts consumer-grade depth camera scans into CAD-ready models via a cloud platform. The company uses computer-vision and 3D-graphics techniques to replace expensive 3D surveying and modeling workflows. Its platform ingests scans, uploads to cloud infrastructure that converts them into CAD files, and supports export for use in standard 3D CAD tools. Paracosm is developing an API for 3D spaces to enable building, navigation, and exploration of 3D content. Target industries include GIS, facilities management, forensic reconstruction, retail layout, real-estate walkthroughs, and other applications needing accurate building simulation and visualization. The company says it aims to create a 3-D model of every building on earth and plans to use recent funding to accelerate product development and reduce costs for users.
