Partanna

Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre, West Bay Street, Nassau, New Providence, The Bahamas

Overview

Partanna produces carbon-negative concrete that replaces Portland cement with magnesium- and slag-based binders made from steel slag and desalination brine. The company says the curing chemistry removes CO2 and that its material absorbs CO2 roughly 100 times faster than a regular cement block. Partanna sells carbon credits generated by its production and is exploring ways to share credits with labor and end users. Per TechCrunch, a single block avoids or removes 14.3 kg (31.4 lbs) of CO2, with almost 80% coming from CO2 absorbed over its lifetime; a 1,250 sq ft home would remove about 130 metric tons of CO2 and avoid another 54 metric tons. The company has memoranda of understanding to supply 1,000 homes in the Bahamas over three years and signed an MOU with Red Sea Global at COP27. Founded in 2021, Partanna is planning a substantial Series A and recently completed a pre-seed round.
