PasswordBox

4200 Saint Laurent Suite 610, Montreal, Quebec, H2W 2R2, Canada

Overview

PasswordBox is a password manager that helps users generate, store, auto-fill and securely share strong passwords, and it includes a digital legacy feature to transfer access after death. The product uses machine learning to detect login forms and claims compatibility with 92% of websites versus competitors’ 72%. It offers a Dropbox-style freemium model (free for up to 25 passwords; $1/month or invite friends for unlimited) and passed one million registered users after about three months live; the company is not disclosing how many are paying customers. Prior to this raise the company was self-financed to the tune of around $2 million (including some private investor money). PasswordBox is scaling its team (from ~15–20 to more than 30 people), expanding its machine learning efforts and is actively working to integrate biometrics (including discussions related to Touch ID), with a patented product planned to be announced at CES. The company is also pursuing distribution partnerships (eg, with antivirus firms) to broaden reach.
