Pat develops Natural Language Understanding technology that it positions as "meaning as a service" for text- and voice-based AI applications. The company says it has made a breakthrough by integrating the Role and Reference Grammar (RRG) model with a scalable, patented neural network to produce direct meaning outputs. Its stated capabilities include word-sense disambiguation, context tracking, machine translation and word-boundary identification. Pat launched an API in private beta and is making it available to select partners to enable more natural, multi-lingual conversations between consumers and machines. The company claims its approach yields certainty instead of probability and outperforms existing conversational platforms on speed, accuracy and scalability. Pat is privately owned and maintains R&D facilities in Sydney in addition to its Palo Alto headquarters.
