Overview
PathoQuest, a spin‑out of Institut Pasteur based in Paris, offers a metagenomics approach that combines an NGS platform, proprietary sample‑preparation and a pathogen genome database with an automated analysis pipeline for comprehensive pathogen detection. The company has developed iDTECT™ Blood, described as the first and only CE‑IVD metagenomic test for clinical infectious disease diagnosis. PathoQuest also provides Biologics Genomic Services to biopharmaceutical companies to help secure production of vaccines, recombinant proteins and cell and gene therapies. Those services are currently being utilized by a growing number of major biopharma and clinical‑stage biotech companies. PathoQuest closed an €8M financing series that includes a venture loan and investor financing plus €427K of non‑dilutive funding from the French PIA3 i‑Nov program. Management says the proceeds will further establish the company’s position in applying NGS to microbiologic testing, expand its Biologics Genomic Services business and advance iDTECT Blood in clinical settings. PathoQuest is a Paris-based molecular diagnostics company founded in 2010 as a spin-off of the Pasteur Institute and the ENVA (Ecole Nationale Veterinaire d’Alfort). Led by Prof. Marc Eloit (president and CSO) and CEO Luc Boblet, the company develops a next-generation sequencing (NGS) cloud-based diagnostic assay and a bioinformatics workflow designed to assist diagnostic decision-making for infectious diseases. The company announced it raised about $4.96M in the reported financing and had previously raised €2M in March 2011. PathoQuest intends to use the new funds to run the first clinical study of a new diagnostic assay targeting severe multi-etiological infectious episodes in immuno-compromised patients. It plans to extend the clinical trial into the U.S. in the coming months and aims to launch a first commercial product in 2015.
