Overview
Payaut is an Amsterdam-based fintech founded in late 2019 by Ernst van Niekerk that provides automated payment solutions for online platforms and marketplaces. Its platform automates seller payouts, reconciliation, balance management, invoicing, KYC-based seller verification, and split payments while ensuring PSD2 compliance and flexibility in payment provider choice. The company is rolling out a new multi-currency platform to accept USD, GBP, JPY and AUD in addition to EUR. By expanding beyond EUR payments, Payaut aims to enter markets outside Europe and plans to increase its presence in Germany, Southern Europe and the Nordics. It raised €8m in seed funding to support these expansion plans and deploy the multi-currency offering across Europe. Payaut provides a complete payment solution for online marketplaces, acting as an intermediary between sellers and Payment Service Providers. Its service lets marketplaces use multiple PSPs such as Mollie, Adyen and Stripe simultaneously, removing dependence on a single provider. By taking care of payment traffic toward vendors, Payaut enables marketplaces to be instantly compliant with European PSD2 regulation and to streamline different cash flows through unified reports. Led by CEO Ernst van Niekerk and founded in 2019, the company plans to scale its payment service and roll out across the rest of Europe. The startup is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and has secured external funding to support its expansion. To date it has raised a total of $4.35m (€3.65m) from international investors and payments-industry angels. Payaut offers an automated payment platform that enables online marketplaces to comply with PSD2 while using multiple Payment Service Providers and automating payout splits with its SplitPayment feature. The platform performs instant, automated seller verification to satisfy KYC requirements embedded in PSD2. Customers mentioned include Dutch Airbnb for boats, Barqo, Motoshare and insurtech SharePeople. The company is led by Ernst van Niekerk, Gillis Haasnoot and Pieter de Haas and is based in Amsterdam. Payaut has raised €1m in funding and is in active talks to close a larger seed round within a couple of months. Backers to date include LocalGlobe, Finch Capital and several seasoned professionals from the finance and payments industry.
