Overview

Peatix operates a mobile-first ticketing and event-management platform that lets organizers handle event setup and dispatch tickets (including a proprietary “color sync” ticketing system) from a mobile device. The company focuses on smaller, non-traditional events and charges a competitive 2 percent surcharge for organizers. It has sold more than 1.2 million tickets across over 50,000 events and more than doubled ticket volume in 2013; about 20% of ticket volume is processed outside Japan and 15% currently comes from Peatix’s discovery system. Peatix generates additional revenue by matching corporate sponsors with events (for example, adding Uber coupons to mobile tickets). The startup has offices in Tokyo, New York and Singapore and is opening an office in Kuala Lumpur while evaluating expansion into Europe and Hong Kong. Management plans to grow overseas presence through small U.S. local teams and to further develop mobile apps and event-discovery features to increase organic attendance and monetization. Peatix operates an online e-ticketing platform that enables event organizers to manage ticket sales and registrations. Since launching in May 2011 it has listed about 10,000 events. The company targets smaller, non-traditional events such as meetups and independent parties rather than incumbent large-ticket providers. Peatix has roughly 20 staff in Japan, three in Singapore and six in New York, and is expanding services to the U.S. and Singapore. Co-founder Emi Takemura is relocating to Singapore to lead Asia. Management plans to support 30,000–50,000 events over the next year and is hiring in the U.S., Singapore and Japan to scale the business. PeaTiX provides an online platform for event organizers to create, promote, and manage events and for attendees to socialize. The founders, Taku Harada and Emi Takemura, previously brought U.S. apps to Japan and secured exclusive licenses for Bit.ly and SurveyMonkey. Since going live in May 2011, the service has managed more than 2,500 events across categories such as sports, concerts, and seminars. The company has 20 employees based in Tokyo. PeaTiX says roughly 30% of tickets are sold on mobile today and will use new funding to increase its mobile presence. It is also planning to expand its product to other Asian countries.
