Peech

7 Florinis Greg Tower, Floor 2, Nicosia, 1065, Cyprus

Overview

Peech is a mobile text-to-speech app that converts articles, documents and photos of book pages into natural-sounding audio and supports about 50 languages. The app uses six or seven different machine-learning models under the hood, including open-source WaveNet and models from AWS, Google and Microsoft, plus some in-house engineering. Users can upload Word documents, PDFs, links or images (OCR) and can listen to pre-uploaded articles via an in-app discovery tool featuring outlets such as The Guardian and Medium. Peech charges about $3 a week for unlimited access and uploads. The company has driven traction through TikTok influencer marketing — the #peechapp tag has almost 30 million views — but faces potential pushback from publishers over article listening and has used some outlet logos in App Store promos without consent. The product was built by co‑founders Andrey Poznyak, Alex Gorbel and Bahram Ismailov amid upheaval related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; CEO Poznyak spoke to TechCrunch from Poland.
