Pekkaniska rents and sells cranes, platform hoists and related lifting equipment and also provides weather protection and haulage services. It operates across Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Ukraine and Sweden through 35 outlets, 17 of them in Finland. The company employs over 300 people and offers customers more than 7,000 platform hoists and cranes. Board Chairman Janne Niska said the company has worked to avoid layoffs during the recession and aims to preserve Finnish jobs. Pekkaniska received a €14.5m investment that the board says will enable expansion and development of operations in Russia and the Ukraine. The investors named were Finnish Industry Investment, llmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company and the company’s principal owner.
