Pela produces a flagship compostable phone case that fully breaks down into carbon, water and organic biomass. Its cases are made from Flaxstic, a blend of plant-based biopolymer and flax shive, an annually renewable waste byproduct. The company makes protection products for current Apple iPhones as well as Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones. Pela was founded in 2011 by environmental consultant Jeremy Lang and is led by CEO Matt Bertulli. The company is based in Kelowna, BC. It intends to use recent funding to accelerate expansion of its phone protection product line.
