Overview
Peptone is a London, UK–based molecular computational physics company focused on protein drug discovery. It combines advanced biophysics, atomic-level experimental approaches, high-performance supercomputing, and machine learning to address biopharmaceutical R&D challenges. The company concentrates on intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs), a class of proteins without fixed structure that play significant roles in health and disease and have been historically difficult to drug. Peptone's proprietary approaches aim to explore IDPs and enable discovery of novel therapeutics against previously undruggable targets. In June 2022 Peptone closed a $40M Series A financing. The round will be used to develop an advanced facility dedicated to solving complex and problematic IDP structures at scale and to pioneer a new class of potential therapeutic targets and drugs. Peptone is a computational physics company that developed one of the world’s first protein engineering operating systems, PeOS. PeOS uses state-of-the-art computational molecular physics orchestrated by AI and reinforcement learning to run massively parallel molecular simulations. The platform sifts through millions of protein feature anomalies to assess the likelihood of failure and suggests routes to resolution, automating the search for non-obvious protein variants with therapeutic potential and manufacturability. The team, led by physicist and founder Dr. Kamil Tamiola and including co-founders Kamil and Matt, comprises physicists, structural biologists, computer engineers and mathematicians who spent years building the foundations of PeOS. Peptone collaborated exclusively with NVIDIA to develop its supercomputing and AI solutions. The company is in talks with pharmaceutical players about partnerships and has raised funding to further develop its technology and reduce early-stage drug development failure risk.
