Percepta
Philadelphia, PA, 19103, United States
Overview
Percepta Labs develops an "ethical AI" that completely anonymizes individuals’ demographic features into three-dimensional drawings and analyzes existing security camera feeds to detect probable shoplifting or precursory shoplifting behavior. The software assigns anonymous shoppers a theft-probability score that loss prevention professionals can act upon. Percepta emphasizes eliminating bias by removing race, gender, and age from its models. Early tests by Percepta indicate the technology could be more than two times more accurate than human loss prevention personnel in detecting shoplifting behaviors. The company was founded by Philippe Sawaya, Neil Gramopadhye, and Jonathan Mak while they were undergraduates at the University of Pennsylvania and is based in Philadelphia. ADT Commercial has provided funding to support commercialization and deployment of the solution in retail environments.
