Overview
Persperion Diagnostics is commercializing the ConTAQ Sweat Glucose Monitoring (SGM) system, a handheld test-strip device that reads fingertip sweat to measure glucose and other biomarkers in under a minute. The system uses a proprietary enzyme interaction and requires an initial finger prick only for first-use calibration; subsequent readings are noninvasive and store historical data. The company says testing cost will be comparable to traditional SMBG and that the device can also sense ketones, vitamins, cortisol, hormones, alcohol and more. Persperion was founded on UC San Diego–licensed nanoengineering technology and counts UCSD professor Dr. Joseph Wang as a partner. The startup has grown to roughly 10 employees, moved to a hybrid lab/office in Kearny Mesa after seed funding, and is still improving its prototype as it scales manufacturing for clinical trials. It plans a pilot trial in Q1, a clinical trial for FDA approval later this year, a Series A raise this year, and a Series B in 2025 aiming for a 2026 market launch.
