PetHub offers mobile-optimized online pet profiles paired with scannable ID tags (QR codes) and a 24/7 "Found Pet" hotline so finders can quickly access owner contact details, medical info, immunizations, and insurance details. For smartphone users the QR code links to the pet's profile and can provide owners with the GPS location of a scan for premium members; feature-phone finders can use a website URL or call the toll-free hotline. The service added the toll-free hotline in May, which helped grow the customer base; PetHub reported over 25,000 customers in February and has shipped more than 50,000 tags overall, including 10,000 sold via a Groupon promotion and a distribution deal with Red Dingo. Pricing starts at $12.95 with no ongoing fees for the basic service, while premium Silver and Gold subscriptions add features like GPS/email alerts, shelter alerts, and insurance plans. The company was founded in 2010 by Tom Arnold, a former Microsoft software project lead. PetHub plans to use new funding to add three hires to its seven-person team to focus on sales and marketing and to pursue big-box retail distribution and licensing opportunities. PetHub produces metal ID tags printed with QR codes and a web address that link to a pet-specific profile page on PetHub. When a tag is scanned, finders can view the pet's profile or use a proxy "Contact Pet Owner" form that forwards messages after a captcha verification to protect owner privacy. Owners can update contact details (phone numbers, pet-care facilities) on the profile to expedite returns; some users list doggie daycares as contacts. The company distributed about 3,000 free tags in Seattle since last October and has launched a nationwide push, planning to charge $9 per tag starting at the end of March. PetHub closed a $200,000 angel financing round. The startup plans a premium subscription service to add messaging and integrations with dog walkers, breeders, and trainers.
