Overview
Founded in 2018 by Jesse Joonho Lim and Ken Daehyun Pak, Petnow offers an Android and iOS app that creates biometric profiles of pets by scanning faces and snouts. The company says its AI is trained on roughly 200,000 images collected by the team and users, and it automatically detects and crops pet images for analysis. For dogs Petnow records a "nose print," which it compares to human fingerprints, and it points to a 2021 IEEE Access study showing its dog nose‑print method was over 99% accurate; a companion paper for cats is forthcoming. Petnow claims its algorithms are 99% accurate overall and says it optimizes photo quality at capture; it also provides options for user consent and data deletion. The startup has about 70,000 users, has signed five undisclosed enterprise and public-sector customers in France, Toronto and South Korea, and is pre-revenue with a roughly $150,000-per-month burn rate. Planned commercial moves include anticipated contracts with Korean domestic and international pet insurers by October and pilots for pet registries in France and a Canadian metropolitan government.
