PGP Farmer plans to build France’s first large-scale medical cannabis production and processing facility near Ribérac in the Périgord Vert. The planned site will include 8,000 m² of pharmaceutical buildings alongside 22,000 m² of greenhouses capable of yielding 30 tonnes of cannabis flowers per year, which will be transformed into capsules, ointments and oils. When fully operational, the plant is expected to employ 150 people and ramp production between 2030 and 2035 as French medical-cannabis legislation comes into force. The company follows proven Canadian and Californian cultivation models, focusing on producing domestically within France’s bioclimatic ecosystem rather than introducing novel technology. PGP Farmer already holds letters of intent from mainly German and Swiss customers, addressing a European market that currently imports 75 % of its supply and is forecast to reach 700 tonnes by 2030. The startup has 2 employees, 6 operating partners and a broader base of 90 investors. To date it has raised and fully deployed €3 million toward permitting, industrial design and proof-of-concept work, with Cap Ingelec engaged as general contractor and Dutch laboratory testing scheduled to complete by late-2026. A much larger financing—structured as roughly one-third public funds, one-third private equity and one-third debt—will be launched in September to finance plant construction, targeted to start in 2027.
