Overview
Physera provides a HIPAA-compliant platform for musculoskeletal (MSK) exercises and remote consultations with physical therapists. It offers a free Android and iOS app that guides users through exercises using animations and voice. The company is led by cofounder and CEO Dan Rubinstein. Physera raised an $8M Series A in March 2019, bringing total funding to more than $10M. As part of the round, Michael Spadafore of BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners will join Physera’s board. Other investors in the company include Innovation Endeavors, Lux Capital, Expa, Slow Ventures, iD Ventures, J‑Angels and Rock Health’s Halle Tecco. Physera offers an app-based physical therapy service that begins with a video visit and delivers prescribed exercise routines patients complete outside the clinic. The app collects photos, video, and adherence data so physical therapists on the network can monitor progress and remotely adjust programs. The company focuses on increasing visibility between visits to improve patient adherence and treatment effectiveness. Physera primarily sells its service to self-insured employers and large health plans, which pay for the program as a way to reduce downstream healthcare costs. Founders Dan Rubinstein and Cameron Marlow emphasize optimizing provider workflows and using behavioral signals to target follow-ups. The team is open to a direct-to-consumer path in the future but is currently monetizing through entities that bear financial risk for care.
